He was born Giovanni Natale Buscema but to us comicbook fans, he was just John, John Buscema. He was a talented comicbook artist and and one of the mainstays of Marvel Comics from the 1960s and 1970s and later when Marvel Comics became the industry giant.
Over his illustrious career he drew almost every Marvel character from Silver Surfer, The Avengers, Fantastic Four, The Mighty Thor, the list is endless. Name a character and John Buscema left his unmistakable mark on that character.
He's perhaps most associated with none character, Conan the Barbarian. He has penciled at least one issue of almost every major title marvel has published and had two long memorable runs of two of Marvel's Top titles, Fantastic Four and The Mighty Thor.
I have to admit here that I didn't start out as a fan of John Buscema's work. I wasn't a fan in the beginning but after a few friends told me about his artwork, I slowly but surely learned to appreciate his work. I smartened up and saw how talented he was. Here's a look at the beautiful artwork of Big John Buscema, starting off with The Silver Surfer.
And here's a character drawn by John Buscema that's closely associated with the Silver Surfer, Mephisto.
Next we have The Mighty Thor. A look at just a few of the covers John drew from his run on The Mighty Thor.
He also provided the art for Wolverine's on going series with legendary inker Al Williamson.
Let's not forget his work on Earth's Mightiest Heroes, The Mighty Avengers.
This was John's first issue of The Avengers, he did the cover and interior artwork, George Roussos did the inks for the cover and interior art.

Let's not forget his work on the Sub-Mariner.
I'm sure you remember, Conan The Barbarian.
John even drew the comicbook adaptation of the Conan movie, I mean who else could draw Conan like John?
Big John Buscema has influenced many artists over the years. Many of them have credited John as the artist they admire and tried to emulate. He has received numerous awards in his storied career, too many to mention here, here's one I'll mention, in 2002, John Buscema was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall Of Fame.
My sharing today featured a small sample of John Buscema's work, there are more beautiful examples of his work out there.
